Ways of Reading- Mid Term Assignment- CHAYANIKA VERMA
Prompt No. 4 DESCRIPTIVE POEMS
1) QUEEN T TM
It is in; inside me
Finally.
After hours of panicking,
sweating & shivering,
It was inside me,
Leaving my body in a state
of quivering.
Is it easy to slide in many
inches?
Who wouldn’t think of
flinching?
My conscious told me to get
over this act
And resume other thoughts
that were in fact,
Less unpleasant than
this.
No, but,
No.
I will do this, I will let
it go inside me,
It will not harm me, it will
not cause any injury,
Just relax your muscles
And let it go inside smoothly,
Just a matter of some
inches,
Just a matter of some
minutes,
Then it will fill you up
with victory
Of successfully inserting it
correctly.
Just a cotton piece with a
string,
A soft white feather-like
cotton
Which wouldn’t leave my body
rotten.
I unsealed the bluish white
packet,
Removed the glossy plastic,
Seemed like a candy at first
But of course it was for
quenching the thirst.
Came out then a small cotton
candy
That ought to be really
handy,
And of course very trendy.
It was covered with a soft
plastic tube
Which was to be pushed
While inserting the cotton
nude.
While inclining my right leg
upon the seat,
I spread the lips of the
meat
Then injected the soft
cotton candy,
Gently,
Calmly,
Slowly,
And yes! It was in, finally.
I didn’t know how much will
it absorb,
How much time will it
retain,
After few hours the white
cotton will be turning red
At that sight, I shouldn’t
dread.
Removal was the easiest
Gently pluck out the now red
cotton with the help of the string,
Repeat the process time and
again,
White to Red.
Red to white.
This will go on for five
days,
Tampons will then have their
names,
Dove in, dove out
Rosy in, rosy out
And which so ever name you
shout.
(The title of the poem is a
term legally owned by Beyoncé that was born out of her attempt to launch a line
of tampons in 2012. The slogan was, “A tampon you’ll worship.” The product
failed, but the name lives on.)
2) A MAJESTIC LAKE
There at the corner of the
hall, stands a majestic lake
Bound by the four glass
walls, kept on a wooden table,
A bright white sunlight,
glowing all night,
All of it creating an
illusion for all of them,
Inside the majestic
lake.
Here inside you can find a
lush green bush,
Some exotic colorful stones,
Some seashells and
Some chemicals and equipments.
The lake has a backdrop too
An unusual one, that of
flowers with minutely visible dates,
A glossy backdrop of
beautiful flowers
Completing the natural look
for the onlooker.
You can open the window of
this lake
And have a deep penetrating
view,
To observe the lifestyle of
them,
From a different vantage
point.
Carrying their daily
activities within this 18x18 lake,
They become a sight of
attraction,
Specially for kids, who just
tend to slap the walls of the lake
And keenly observe their
movements.
The bubbles keep on escaping
the pump,
Giving the water a lively
appearance
Which is clear one day, gets
dirty on another,
Well, my friends, don’t
shudder,
Change the water you want
whenever.
Oh! Look there’s a cave too,
You can see all of them
playing around it,
Probably hide and seek?
Finding new things to play
with, every week.
But mind you, this lake is
majestic and natural,
Not for us but for
them.

Prompt No. 3 REPETITION POEMS
1) MEHBOOB
Aao tumhein ek sher sunaye,
Apne mehboob ko tumse rubaru
karwaye.
Baras ke the hum pandreh aur
the jawaan,
Lagi thi jab hum dono ko
ishq ki hawa.
Aao tumhein do sher or
sunaye,
Apne mehboob ko tumse rubaru
karwaye.
Hath makhmali jaise koi
gulaab,
Rang Aisa jaise koi
mahtaab.
Alag si thi kuch unki
khaslat,
Poora karna chahti thi koi
hasrat.
Aao tumhein teen sher or
sunaye,
Apne mehboob ko tumse rubaru
karwaye.
Nazaron se hume vo krte the
Ghayal,
Hum bhi chankana jante the
apni payal.
Nazar ke jo teer ab chal
chuke the,
Bhare bazar hum lut chuke
the.
Rooh ko choo jati unki
hasi,
Ye kis bavandar mai
fassi.
Ae saaqi, aao tumhein bhi kayi
aur sher sunaye,
Apne Mehboob ko tum se bhi
rubaru karwaye,
Magar us se pehle humara yeh
jaam bhara jaye.
Kyunki,
Yeh shaam hai unke naam,
Yeh jaam hai unke
naam.
2) THE
PICTURE
(In case the poem is not legible, read below)
Drop
your jaws, now!
Gasp
for fresh air through,
the
picture behind.
Soothe
your eyes through,
the
picture behind.
Absorb
yourself in the gaze through,
the picture behind.
Let the breeze tickle your face through,
the picture behind.
Hear the birds chirping through,
the picture behind.
Purify your body, mind and soul through,
the picture behind.
Appreciate the nature through,
the picture behind.
Bring your consciousness to the surface,
Yet again.
Drop your jaws, now!
Yet again, in refrain.
